Last week, we went to the Nature and Science Museum here in Denver. My oldest daughter did a project on Venus last year in school, and when we were at the museum, she taught me all kinds of things I never knew about the planet, then squealed with joy when the giant sphere projection changed to Venus.

Kids. Always teaching us something. We just have to listen.

How can you show listening?   (this one is supposed to be tricky)

Naughty or Nice

Have you been naughty or nice? Show us how!
This is my very badly behaved elf, Gollum...dressed as Benedict Cumberbatch...reading R. Kelly's lyrics.

This week is all about color - take a picture that features color above everything else.

This was taken during sunrise this week.

Day 30 ~ Family

I took this picture, thanks to dragging out the good camera, a stepladder and a timer.

This is one side of the family, plus half of my sister in law's family, on Thanksgiving Day.

Love these people.

Day 29 ~ Share

This was my Dad's favorite place to visit here in Colorado, Estes Park.

It seemed to make sense that we were here, sharing this place, on his birthday last week.

I miss you, Dad.

Day 28 ~ Love

This is my Daddy and The Oldest when he was just a baby, and was taken 12 years ago this weekend.

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Day 27 ~ Celebration

I am trying to catch up here, so forgive me!

This is Freckles and Little Boy at her Halloween party at school this year.

Saturday, November 23, 2013

Day 24 ~ Hope

I hope he always loves music. I hope he always stays true to himself. I hope he stays weird.

Friday, November 22, 2013

Day 23 ~ Feast

I could eat Japanese food every day for the rest of my life.

Sushi from this weekend before the nerd symphony. Nom.

Day 21~ Important

I just spent the last half hour trying to make my kids understand that they absolutely don't have to like each other, but they do have to respect each other.
No amount of wishing you were an only child will make it so.
Live with it.
Eventually, hopefully, you'll like each other.

Day 20 ~ Gift

The lady who gave me this gift is one of my most favorite people.

Day 19 ~ Frustration

This door was slammed. On purpose. Repeatedly. For twenty minutes straight yesterday.

This is what a child with rage and anger does. On a fairly regular basis.

It's frustrating to live with.

It's frustrating to be.

Day 18 ~ Calm

There isn't much quiet to be had in my house.

I have to enjoy them when they happen.

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Day 17 ~ Chaos

I could just take a picture of my house on any given day at about 7:40am to show this one, but I thought about it a little bit and decided to show you this one instead.

These were taken at the grocery store during the catastrophic flooding that happened here in September.

The highways were closed, the gas stations were out of gas, and all the bottled water was gone. What this picture doesn't show is the line wrapped all the way around the store just to check out.

Day 16 ~ Nourish

This one is subject to interpretation. Some may take it literally, others may take it and run with it.

I decided to choose a picture that shows how I nourish my soul.

This includes many of my favorite things. Time alone. Water. Reading. Distraction from reality.

(we won't talk about how people said it was a spoiler...)

Day 15 ~ Self Portrait

Cheating a little since I was at school all day with a constantly dying cell phone.

I took this one a couple months ago.

With a cell phone. In a parking garage. In the rain. Good pictures can happen anywhere.

Who are you?

Day 14 ~ Fear

I totally forgot about the challenge today, then was too tired to go out and take a picture...then I realized I already knew what I needed to use as my picture for this prompt.

I have been in therapy for a while now, but started formal EMDR today.

This is my calendar reminder.

I was in my pajamas until 9:43am.

I didn't want to go.

I was scared, really scared going in. I was afraid of living it all again.

It was bad and I know it will get worse, but I have hope that all of this digging deep and soul searching will pay off in the long run.

Day 13 ~ Bravery

This boy.

We've been doing this little dance, he and I, for a year now. As long as he has episodes of high blood sugar when he is sick, we'll have to keep doing it. He insists on poking himself with the needle.

Diabetes sucks.

This face makes it suck a little bit less, especially when it's covered in peanut butter and jelly.

Monday, November 11, 2013

Day 12 ~ Animal

This is my Jake.

He lays on the landing of the stairs when some of his people are upstairs and some down.

He also lays there most of the day when the kids are at school.

He can hear them long before I can.

He's an old boy, but he's a good boy.

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Day 11 ~ Truth

This has saved my life. Without writing, I don't know where I would be right now.

Saturday, November 9, 2013

Day 10 ~ Personality

I seriously just asked Freckles why almost all of my "personality" pictures are of her. She steals my cell phone and takes selfies being ridiculous, she poses with props, she makes videos. She's quirky and weird and she's hilarious. This is her being supergirl because of the shirt.

One of these days, I will take all these pictures of her and make a photo book for her. Until then, this will have to do.

Friday, November 8, 2013

Day 9 ~ Friends

This is always one of my favorite days in the challenge because it reminds me how lucky I am to have some amazing people in my life.

As a disclaimer, I have to tell you that I didn't actually take any of these pictures this time around.

Also, I have to tell you that there is no way for me to tell you about all the awesome people that live in my computer that I can call some of my closest friends, even if we've never actually met in person.

In the past, I've shared many pictures of my closest friends from college. These are some of the ones since then. If I'm missing someone (or parts of someone's body that aren't in the frame), it's not intentional.

Some of my craziest friends. I'd tell you we
weren't drinking, and that'd be a lie.

When you've seen people come out of your friends and they've
seen people come out of you, it builds a lasting friendship.
We also owned a business together and didn't kill each other.

She's going to kick my ass for putting this here, so make it
worth my while, okay? My favorite hot date.
Last time we went out, I lost my sunglasses and an earring. FTW

It may not appear so, but at this exact moment in time,
we were all a mess. I hadn't seen them in over year and it
didn't matter. Some people are just always there for you.

Burning bras with some of my favorite ladies.
We do the hard stuff well, this group.

Day 8 ~ Harvest

Even though I am allergic to everything in the air right now, this is my favorite time of year. Here in Colorado, the sky gets a little bit bluer, the angle of the sun gets a little bit lower, the colors seem to pop a little more.

This is a farm near my home. Soon this field will be covered with 281 new homes, but for right now, it's this.

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

Day 7 ~ Water

This is always one of my favorite prompts in the challenge because I'm a water person. Makes sense, I guess, being that I am an Aquarius and all. When I'm having a hard time with the universe, I find myself being pulled toward water, almost in a magnetic way. It's a primal thing, it's comforting, it's home.

This place in particular is one of my happy places, though it is currently severely damaged from the flooding. From this angle, you can't tell though, and it looks as gorgeous as it ever has.

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

Day 6 ~ Action

The tale of the two number tens.

The Oldest and his best friend playing against each other in intramural basketball, wearing the same number.

One team may have lapped the other one, but we won't talk about that part....

Monday, November 4, 2013

Day 5 ~ Macro

Macro shots are some of the most fun to take, and can be done with a cell phone camera, though they are trickier.

The idea of macro photography is to capture the fine, minute details that we would normally not see in an image. The most critical element of it, aside from lighting, is tight focus.

This is some of my homebrewed beer, freshly poured and waiting.

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Day 4 ~ Light

Light is one of the most crucial elements of photography and the manipulation of it is something that will expand your abilities.

This was taken with a cell phone camera, and isn't the greatest shot, but shows how a steady hand and turning off the flash can take your jack-o-lantern pictures up a level.

Saturday, November 2, 2013

Day 3~ Season

What does this season mean to you?

We spent a while getting lost in a corn maze and looking for pumpkins last weekend. Wouldn't be Fall without it.

Friday, November 1, 2013

Day 2 ~ Create

For the past two years or so, we have been brewing our own beer at home.

I made these labels for the batch that we just finished up and will tap any day now!

Day 1 - Fantasy

This is our whole family at the city's annual Halloween parade.

Pink Stormtrooper, Steampunk Luke Skywalker, Steampunk Princess Leia, Han Solo, Yoda and Darth Vader.

You Choose The Theme!

This one could be food, drink, art, beauty in the ordinary, sanity or anything else you could think of.

This magnificent cup of coffee was created at 2914 Coffee in Denver.

This will be our last weekly theme for now, we will be starting a 30 day challenge on November 1, and it will all run through the Facebook group this time.

Sunday, October 13, 2013

In the world of Instagram and cell phones with editing capabilities, there are so many more options to play with your images.

This is me wearing a very ridiculous mustache scarf, run through a cross-processing filter on my phone.

Play with your settings, have fun and share!

Sunday, October 6, 2013

My oldest son has a very active imagination. He is a creator of many things, and can take the most ordinary of objects and come up with things I couldn't have even envisioned if I tried for hours.

This is most of his second costume for Halloween. He's still working on a few pieces, but made the sonic screwdriver in the garage out of posterboard, a marble and an LED light from a keychain.

When I took this picture of him as The Doctor, I didn't even think about the fact that there is a giant clock behind him...which would make sense since he is a time lord and all....

Monday, September 16, 2013

This week, capture change. This is a picture of one of my favorite place in the whole wide world, a place that won't look much like this anymore thanks to days of catastrophic flooding. Sad face.

Saturday, September 7, 2013

How everyone chooses to interpret this one will be so different, and that's why I love this prompt.

This picture captures time for me in so many ways.

It was the last time we would go to my father's favorite place, The Aquarium of the Pacific, together.

Time had sped up for him, the cancer had aged him faster and faster.

Time was going to fast already with my children.

Time was different then. Everything about my life was. What I wouldn't give for a little of this time back.

Sunday, September 1, 2013

This picture may be one of my all time favorites of my kids because it's so real.

Freckles, on the left, was mad because she spent all her fair tokens trying to win a sock monkey and didn't. Mini-Me, on the right, was nervous and excited to go on the ride.

Someday they are both going to hate me for taking this picture.

Capture an emotion this week and share!

Camera tricks/angles/perspective

I took and posted this last night because it's funny. Then people thought my husband actually was peeing in the fountain. Sigh.

Play with angles and perspective this week!

Saturday, August 17, 2013

This week isn't about the subject you intend to capture, it's the one that sneaks in there!

Photobombs are some of my favorite pictures, but they are tricky because they require the element of surprise.

I took this one earlier this week as my little guy was being sung to on his birthday. Captain America is his big brother, and a total ham if you couldn't tell.

Saturday, August 10, 2013

This one can be interpreted in so many ways. In photography, one of the most important elements is light. How you see light, how it surrounds you and your subject, and how you can manipulate that light one of the things I love the most about photography.

Sometimes it's just about being in the right place at the right time, as it was with this shot. Have fun with this one, it's one of my favorite prompts.

Monday, August 5, 2013

This week's theme is an easy one - FOOD!

This tomato is a homegrown bit of heaven on earth.

Monday, July 29, 2013

This one is easy enough. Take a picture of what summer means where you are and share it!

This was taken a couple weeks ago here in town. Summer often means dodging storms in the afternoons around here!
